ITENERARY

Monday, October 21

We will have an early (probably 7:00 AM) departure from the east campus parking lot for our bus trip to the Ark Encounter in northern Kentucky, with lunch at Emzara’s Buffet in the Ark Encounter complex.  We will likely stop at the Buc-ees (north of Bowling Green) as a rest stop on the way up.  You will have the afternoon to explore the various exhibits at the Ark Encounter, which includes their full-scale Ark, a zoo, and a carousel (all included).

We plan to regroup and drive to our Cincinnati area hotel between 5:30 and 6:00, with a dinner stop on the way to the hotel.  We currently plan to stop at a group of fast-food restaurants in Walton, KY for dinner at your own expense.  If the group prefers, another option is for dinner at Golden Corral in Florence, KY, which would add $20 to the cost of the trip.

Tuesday, October 22

After breakfast at the hotel, we will begin the day with a drive to the Dayton, Ohio, area to the National Museum of the US Air Force.  This museum, located at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, is the world’s largest military aviation museum. The museum features more than 350 aerospace vehicles, missiles and thousands of artifacts amid more than 19 acres of indoor exhibit space.  The museum has more than a dozen galleries, including one dedicated to WW2, another featuring space vehicles, and a retired Air Force One in the Presidential Gallery.  Adjacent to the museum is the National Aviation Hall of Fame, which is dedicated to honoring individuals who have uniquely contributed to America’s rich legacy of aviation achievement—achievement generated by American ingenuity and individual acts of great vision, persistence, skill and courage.

Lunch will be on your own at either the Valkyrie Café or the Launchpad Shop 'n Snack, both located within the museum.  No outside food or drinks are permitted in the museum, with the exception of sealed water bottles (20 oz or less).

We will depart the museum mid-afternoon and return to our Cincinnati area hotel for about an hour before departing for a dinner cruise on the Ohio River.  We should be back in our hotel around 9:30.

Wednesday, October 23

After breakfast at the hotel, we will begin the drive home, with a planned lunch stop at a buffet restaurant near Cave City, KY.  After lunch we plan to stop at Lost River Cave for a Cave Boat Tour.

Folklore and facts come together to provide unforgettable stories of Lost River Cave as an ancient native hunting ground, a Civil War campground for both the Union and Confederacy, a hideout for the infamous outlaw Jesse James, and a swinging underground 1930’s nightclub.

After our boat tour we will finish our return drive to Murfreesboro, with an expected arrival time between 5 and 6pm.
